Preview of Tomorrow’s games
Jets @ Bandits – Game 2 – Bandits lead 1-0
Bandits will be looking to keep their hot streak going, and hope their offense continues to stay hot. Each of their three forwards had 3 point nights, and the Bandits will need to continue that to maintain a lead in the series. Although the Jets put thirty shots on net, Reid stood on his head, only letting one in, helping his team in the win. Jones will need to improve his play up to the standard that Reid has set for the Jets to have any chance in game 2, and the rest of the series.
Stars @ Beavers – Game 2 – Stars lead 1-0
Much of the talk coming into the series was the major trade between the two teams before the deadline. Although Reggie Williams was the big name in the trade, Mike Szatkowski showed he may have been a bigger part of the trade. Although he did play great all year long, it was Carlos Matta who stole the show tonight. Although he let in three goals, he kept a very strong Beavers offence at bay early in the game, before his offence could wake up. The game showed these two teams do not like eachother, containing three fights. Look for the series to continue to be very tough, and very close as these two teams match up very well, it will come down to the team who plays harder, and wins the little battles.
News
The Toronto Stars started looking at the future of the team, signing up two key contributers on their team onto a long-term contract. Defenseman Rodney Silva signed a new deal, taking less money, but signing on for an extra year. They also signed Reggie Williams to a two year contract extension, 2 years and 6 million, along with incentives.
The long awaited rumor held true, as the SHL announced the first expansion team. The SHL is going overseas, as the newest team announced was the Finland Dragons. They already picked up the defending Art Ross Trophy winner in Sylvester Rock. As well, the GM did tell the media scrum that in building this team, he will be looking to build from the back first, most likely looking for a solid goalie, and dependable defense.
Outside the SHL
The Carolina Hurricanes come back in their series to win game 2, and tie things up at one.
Both the Dallas Mavericks, and the Phoenix suns won their game 7 matchups, and will go on to meet eachother in the West final.
Brad Richards signs a new contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning, signing a 5 year, 39 million dollar contract. This moves him to the second largest contract in the league, only behind Jaromir Jagr.
Maggie the Monkey made her picks for the SHL playoffs, picking the Bandits and Attack to meet in the finals.
