Today’s Games
Bandits @ Jets – Game 6 – Jets lead series 3-2
After no scoring in the first period, Chad Lyzohirkaa scores 3 minutes into the second period, to give the Jets a 1-0 lead. That was the only offence all game, resulting in a 1-0 Jets win. The Jets advance to the Challenge cup final against the Stars, which started earlier tonight
Jets @ Stars – Game 1 – Challenge Cup Final
The inaugural season of the SHL is closing down, as we now start out the first ever Challenge Cup. These two teams have battled all season long, and now have the opportunity to win the first championship. After a great rendition of the Canadian national anthem, the crowd in Toronto is going crazy, awaiting the drop of the puck.
Remengesau scores the first goal of the series, just 8 minutes into the game, giving the Jets an early 1-0 lead.
Just 6 minutes later, Boyer scores the second goal for the Jets, giving them a 2-0 lead.
The Stars start to press hard, but the stingy defence keeps the action out from in front of the net. Stars make a fancy passing play, but the puck hits the post, coming that close to making this a one goal game.
Lyzorhirkaa scores in the empty net, to give the Jets a 3-0 win. This is the fifth straight win for the red hot Jets, and KC Jones’ third straight shutout.
3 Stars:
1. Tommy Remengesau - 1 goal, 2 assists, GWG.
2. Patrick Boyer - 1 goal, 1 assist.
3. Chad Lyzohirkaa - 1 goal
Preview of Tomorrow’s games
Jets @ Stars – Game 2 – Challenge Cup – Jets lead series 1-0
Is their any team that could possibly stop the red hot KC Jones, and the Winnipeg Jets. If such a team exists, they had their chance in game one, and failed miserably. Jones wasn’t unbelievable in the game, but he did not have to be. The Jets defence is proving to be very solid, keeping a very good offensive team like Toronto without a goal. In order for the Stars to change something up, they will need to solve the Jets current defensive strategies. They will need to attack deep, and battle for every puck to earn every chance on goal. If the Jets continue to roll like they are right now, there may be no team that can stop them. If the Stars hope to get back in this series, they will need to come out with a much better performance then they did in game one.

We Start our look at the draft with our first interview with one of the upcoming rookies available.
One on One interview with Alexei Koivu
Congratulations on being admitted for the upcoming draft. What position do you see yourself going at during the draft?
Well we all hope we go No.1 overall, but normally that doesnt happen. I See myself going somewhere in the first round.
You seem like a very quick, skilled centre. How would you explain the way you play to someone who may not have seen you play before.
My style of play is to grind out every play, I have a never give up attitude, I don't look for the flashy play, but the play that will most help my team win. I am the type of player that hates to lose and will do everything in my power to help my team win.
You are the first Russian to enter the ranks of the SHL, how important do you think it is for the SHL to attract players outside of North America, especially since we have a team now located in Europe?
I think It is important, it is always good to have players from different nationalities. There are lots of talented athletes out there that deserve a chance in the SHL. I am very privileged to have this oppurtunity to play in the SHL.
If their was one player that you could say you have a similar playing style to, who would that player be, and why?
I think I am most similar to Paul Kariya, we have similar size and both have great speed, we also have the same style of play.
Before the actual draft occurs, do you have a favorite team here in the SHL, perhaps a team that you would like to be wearing the jersey of when the first puck drops next season?
There two teams I am fond of, but I don't want to tell, whatever jersey I am wearing on openind day I will wear proudly.
Please tune in tomorrow to Sportscentre where we will continue interviewing rookies, profiling David Roenick.
One on one Interview with the newest GM of the SHL, Sylvester Rock
Congratulations on the Art Ross trophy, and the new team first of all. What did you think of your first year in the SHL, both personally, and as a member of the Wildcats.
Thanks a lot man. Well, I loved playing in the SHL. It was a very well run league with lots of activity. I especially loved playing on the WildCats because of how well the team chemistry was. GM Steeves did a great job assembling a fine team, and it’s unfortunate that we didn’t have the perfect ending. I would have loved to win a Challenge Cup with my Wildcat teammates.
You will be now moving on to your new team, the Finland Dragons. This is will be the first international team in the SHL, do you think it will help, or hurt you at all, in trying to bring players to come play in Finland?
I think it will be a positive. Some players want to explore the world and Finland is a beautiful place. Being the only team in Finland I expect the fan support to be unreal. Players really want to be appreciated and that will happen in Finland. Plus, they don’t have to pay those horrible Canadian taxes.
You have been quoted as saying that you are interested in building from the back. What is it about having solid goaltending, and defense that you think will build a winner, and have you already thought about some possible players that may fit into the Dragon system?
Well, I think that defense wins championships and I certainly want a championship. My philosophy is going to be up tempo and really fast. That’s why I need defensive stalwarts. We are going to take a lot of offensive chances so we need to play proper defensive hockey to succeed. I have definitely thought of a few players, but I can’t tell you.
For fans, and players that may not know much about you, what kind of hockey will the Finland Dragons be playing when they hit the ice next season?
I guess I already answered that question lol. We will score a lot and will be able to keep the puck out of our end. It will be constant pressure for the other team. I hope to bring some excitement to Finland and our fans. We want the loudest building in the SHL.
You will definitely be making a transition from the ice, to the office as a GM. Is their any things that may help you in your new job that you learned as a player, and what do you think will be the biggest difference doing both playing and managing, compared to just worrying about playing?
Well it will be some more responsibility that’s for sure. I just want to go out there and do my best at both aspects of the game. I want to keep my players happy and the only way I know how to do that is to win. Good things happen after you win. At any rate I will enjoy my newfound leadership position.
Look for the expansion Finland Dragons to do some serious damage in the SHL season 2!!
Outside the SHL
Edmonton Oilers win game 5 of the series, and finish the ducks off I five, heading to their first Stanley cup final in sixteen years.
Miami Heat win game 3 of the series, to take a 2-1 lead over the Pistons.
One day before his Quebec Remparts will compete in the memorial cup, Alexander Radulov was announced as the player of the year in major junior hockey. He had 61 goals, in just 62 games played.
Highlight of the Night
KC Jones makes a great save in the middle of the third period. That save kept the two goal lead for the Jets, helping KC Jones to his third straight shutout.
